Lucy and Eugene are back with the first episode of the season. We mostly talk AO 2022, but also share our thoughts on the year ahead
Catch up and explain how we plan to pod going forward. We also share our thoughts on the Novak Djokovic (Novaxx) drama Down Under.
Naomi Osaka returns! Reached the semi-finals in Melbourne warm-up tournament, then fell to an in-form Amanda Anisimova in the third round of the Australian Open. We are just happy to see Osaka back!
Madison Keys! Beat Coco Gauff en route to the Adelaide title then reached the semi-finals in Melbourne where she lost to eventual champion Ash Barty. Played some breathtaking tennis during the Australian summer and looks to be in a good place.
Shout out to women’s winner Barty (besides the Williams sisters, the Australian is the only active player to win Grand Slams on all three surfaces).
Gael Monfils rolled back the years. Won in Adelaide, where he beat second seed Karen Khachanov in the final. Then went on to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open – lost to Matteo Berrettini in five sets. Spoke after about wanting “just one slam”.
Felix Auger-Aliassime also reached the AO quarter-finals – lost to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in five sets. The Canadian was two sets to love up and had a match point. Was optimistic afterwards which left us feeling good.
Shout out to men’s winner Rafael Nadal who now sits apart from the Big Three on 21 Grand Slams.
In the Juniors, Angella Okutoyi became the first woman from Kenya to reach the third round in singles at a Grand Slam.
Netflix tennis documentary coming soon! Some of the players we know they are following include: Stefanos Tsitsipas, Berrettini, Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina, Ons Jabeur, Monfils and Frances Tiafoe among others. (Not all fully confirmed)
ATP tournaments in Pune (featuring Elias Ymer and Jay Clarke) and Montpellier (Monfils, Mikael Ymer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga).
